I joined the Cork Constraint Computation Centre to develop constraint based optimisation techniques for smart buildings as part of the ITOBO project.  In particular, I am working on intelligent decision support systems to assist facility managers in operating buildings efficiently.  Before coming to Ireland I was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Technical University of Munich in Germany and the University of South Australia.  My PhD I received from the Australian National University where I worked on the automated diagnosis of large-scale systems like telecommunication or power supply networks.  These systems are mostly composed of many different components and I have looked at how to compactly gather as much local failure information as possible from the components and how to efficiently combine this data to reason about possible problems in the whole system. The timely and accurate identification of failures will allows then the automatic planning of actions to reconfigure the systems and thus remedy the failures to improve the system's performance.
